Volunteering for Taiyou Con--either as a staff member or volunteer--is one of the best ways to support Taiyou Con. The convention could not function (let alone be successful!) without the dedication of its wonderful staff and volunteers! Whether you are interested in donating 4 hours or 40, there is a place where you can help.

Staff vs. Volunteer

We define a staff member as someone who dedicates a great deal of time to Taiyou Con. Generally, a staff member puts in time before the convention and at the convention, but there are exceptions to the rule. Staff members can expect to dedicate 20+ hours (and sometimes much, much more time) to the convention, including pre-con and at-con work.

In contrast, a volunteer (sometimes called an hourly volunteer, since even the staff are unpaid volunteers) puts in little to no work before the convention, and will dedicate less than 20 hours overall. At the convention, we have volunteers who will work as little as one hour, although most prefer to put in at least four hours of work.

Currently, we are only looking for staff members. Once we have built our core staff, we will begin looking for hourly volunteers for at-con work. We have many different kinds of positions available, and we've tried to be as clear about the expectations as possible. Please read over the responsibilities for the position(s) you might be interested in before applying. If you are interested in a position but unsure if you will be able to meet all the responsibilities (or think you might need training to do the job well) please apply anyway! Guest Relations

Guest Relations handles all aspects of our guests, including inviting guests, arranging transportation, and ensuring guests are comfortable and enjoy their experience at Taiyou Con.The Guest Relations department consists of Liaisons and Runners, who work in complimenting ways to ensure the guests have a great time at our convention. Operations

Operations ensures that the convention runs smoothly in many different aspects. This team is truly the backbone of the convention. Registration, Security, Information Desk, Exhibitor Relations, Crowd Control, Hospitality, and Supplies all fall under Operations. Programming

Programming handles all of the events attendees enjoy at Taiyou Con. Panels, special events (such as the Masquerade), and autograph sessions are just a few of the things Programming handles. Specific staff members will oversee panel selection and scheduling, prize distribution, special events, and the technical operations (AV) that keep our events running well. Public Relations

Public Relations is the team that gets the word out about Taiyou Con. This department handles not only our convention marketing (such as fliers, online ad campaigns, and in-store events), but they also handle the design of the marketing materials. There are a couple of positions in this department where individuals with experience in graphic design and/or website design/upkeep are especially valuable. Staff and Volunteers

Staff and Volunteers is a team devoted to making sure the convention is staffed with great volunteers, and is devoted to keeping those volunteers happy! This team will work to recruit volunteers for the convention (both staff members and hourly volunteers), schedule hourly volunteers for at-con work, and plan the Staff/Volunteer After Party.
